creating a 3D thunderstorm effect in after effects

Robert Hranitzky creates a 3D thunderstorm scene in after effects using 2 still photographs, photoshops vanishing point, trapcode particulars and trapcode horizon. Also, if you haven’t already, make sure you check out my tutorial on vanishing point for some additional really helpful tips!

iWires for deforming 3D objects

An interesting approach using a system to deform man-made, or hard surface  3D objects, much similar to the way that soft deformations and selections work on organic models. iWire however deforms the model with reconstruction and maintains the initial models key features and forms. Nifty!

ruins 2.0, a CUDA real-time shatter plug-in for maya

nShatter.com recently released ruins 2.0, an undated version of a pretty cool CUDA realtime shatter plugin for maya. Ruins uses accelerated cards to to generate shatters and effects in real time. Ruins 2.0 reduce memory problems, supports precision shatter or random shatter with each other.
