big day for autodesk 2011 announcements, including maya 2011

Autodesk, purveyor of 95% of all the high end CG software announced 2011 versions for mudbox, 3ds Max, Maya, Motionbuilder, Softimage… and um, practically everything – it’s a little frightening really.

Some new features of the Maya 2011 version include:
Enhanced User Interface
Accelerated Skinning Workflow
Non-Destructive Live Retargeting
64-bit Support for Mac OS X
3D Editorial
Enhancements to Assets and File Referencing
Color Management
Qt User Interface Toolkit
Large Scene Performance
Vector Paint in Maya Composite

The “enhanced user interface” is actually a change over into using the Nokia QT framework, which makes sense considering cross-platform operability and the recent demo’s autodesk has of their major software sitting and being used in the cloud. Maya is looking at a release date around April supposedly, so line up now.

If you haven’t seen already, check out some of mayas new feature videos below, some very welcome features, including some skinning tools that are similar to 3ds Max.
