Kevin P McAuliffe takes a look at using the Difference Matte effect in After Effects which is really kind of a forgotten or underused tool in After Effects.
In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe shows you a great, and highly underused tool inside of Adobe’s After Effects, and that is the Difference Matte
Here, Kevin looks at a workflow for using the Difference Matte in After Effects for removing an element from a shot and use that element in other shots.
The Difference Matte in After Effects is actually one of the first things that I will try, before keying even; Especially if there are clean plate clips available for a shot. I typically find difference mattes to be a great way to make a quick and dirty garbage matte even if there are no clean plates around. Check out the tutorial for Using Difference Mattes in After Effects CS6 here.
