Brent Forrest, creator of the MegaTorus geometry generator for Maya I posted about a while back, shot me a quick note to notify me about his latest effort, a character rig that has a bit of a twist to it, being created from live boolean objects enabling the character to almost mimic a character created of clay.

Well, Boolieman is a character rig in Maya 2011. It’s designed to be molded and shaped like clay, and when animated will behave like actual clay

The Boolieman’s mesh is actually live and dynamic, and changes live whenever the character is moved, allowing you to add or decrease mesh density on any part of the rig.

The entire rig is built out of custom boolean primitives, which is comprised of a bendable boolie ball, a boolie peg made from a sphere and a cylinder, and a boolie bod which is built from a few spheres strung together. Having a live boolean object rig provides a really unique look, and a lot of possibilities, animating a digital clay character rig.
