Maya | Easy Texture Edge Distressing for Models

using-xNormal-to-bake-edge-maps

3D and technical artist Shane Marks shows how to create some easy texture edge distressing on you models (in any 3D application really) using Photoshop, and XNormal, demonstrating how to prepare and bake the model maps and creating masks from those in PS – simple but effective.

XNormal will be used to extract curvature information from the model

Shane show how to use XNormal to grab curvature information from the model and then using that resulting map as a mask in photoshop where you can paint the textures for only the model’s edges easily. Shane also provides some resources for all of the tools and concepts that will be used, so if you are a beginner, this is a great reference.
