Maya | Using Transfer Attributes As a Shrink Wrap Deformer

Starting out by saying “The more you know the more you realize how much you don’t know” Jimmy Gunawan proves this a bit by showing that you can use the Maya Transfer Attributes Tool to transfer more than just UV’s, colors, or sets. Maya’s Transfer Attributes will also be used to project one object on another, much like how a shrink wrap deformer would work.

One would think this is for transferring UV or Color, but in fact it is also useful to Project One Mesh over another Mesh

This one got past me – I have always used Transfer Attributes for UV’s and color sets, never thinking that it has “transfer Vertex Position”. As Jimmy notes, select the object that you want to project onto, the object you want to project and set the Transfer Attributes Vertex Position as “on” and set the search method for “closest Along Normal”. Check out Jimmy’s original post showing BASIC / Transfer Attribute For Projection where he comers it to Blender’s shrink wrap modifier here.
