Creating a muti-use spinning globe can be pretty practical as well as worthwhile project to keep around and if it is one that you can edit or change the style of to fit project needs, all the better. Over the course of this blog I have posted quite a few animating “Spinning Globe” tutorials that use After Effects. The thing is, you can never have too many globe animations in broadcast work.

Creative Congo’s Calvin Swaim shows how to create a quick and super easy vector globe image in After Effects, that will be really easy to introduce animation into. Using some free resources and native AE effects, Calvin covers creating the globe from scratch.
Here, the AEMap tool for After Effects gets taxed to build the countries for the vector globe. AEMap is a plugin will easily generate equirectangular projection maps with 287 separate countries (available on AEScripts + AEPlugins) as the basis for the vector globe.
Calvin shows how to warp the vectors into a sphere by using… well, the CC Sphere effect. Then it is simply a matter of animating the rotation, which Calvin does by using the “offset” in After Effects to trick it into looking like it is spinning.
