A Mograph Style Rig for After Effects? yes please.

There is no question that the MoGrpah module in C4D is an incredibly useful tool for creating motion graphics and instanced repeating effects. It is so great in fact, that it would be relevant to find something that offered the same functionality in other applications, say like…After Effects.

You are able to get some of the functionality out of Ae’s Shape Layers using the repeater, but for the most part, that kind of functionality is left out of other Ae elements.

Here, School of Motion’s Joey Korenman has a look at creating a Mograph Style Rig right in After Effects, which will allow you to mimic at lease some of the functionality of the C4D MoGraph tools.

A while back, Mikey Borup had a bit of  a look at recreating the capabilities of Ae Shape Layers using the the After Effects Expression Controller demonstrating some of what you can do with it and expressions in After Effects. Mikey also showed how you can build some of the same functionality that you might fins in C4d into any layer in After Effects. You can even download and use a handy preset for free.
