Creating a Houdini FLIP Simulation Flooding A Hallway

FX Technical Director Rajiv Sharma spots a fairly in-depth look at using Houdini FLIP particles too create a VFX scene of a hallway being flooded with water. In fact, the tutorial, which comes in 10 parts, shows how to export a scene from maya to simulate in Houdini, and covers the basics of understanding FLIP simulations in Houdini.

Rajiv then goes on to show how to create foam, spray and bubbles and walks through the entire scene’s progress including rendering and compositing in The Foundry’s Nuke.

FLIP Fluids are Fluid Impact Particles in Houdini which were introduced back in version 11. Acting as a hybrid of the volume based and SPH fluid simulators, FLIP fluids are primarily used to create fast moving and large body water simulations with lots of character, for example a waterfall, or water rushing down a hallway.
