The Pixel Lab’s Joren Kandel sings the praises of DEM Earth for C4D, covering all of the features of the popular Cinema 4D plugin to get you started.
DEM Earth is an amazing tool that will let you create terrain and cities with actual data from Digital Elevation Models. It does this at the click of a button, and dynamically as well. DEM Earth automatically builds the model from data that it downloads. All you have to do is provide a location for it.
DEM Earth can also work with Open Street Map (OSM) data, and recently added a smart extruder tool which will actually create simple 3D representations of city buildings according to the OSM data.
