The Spot Flare Gizmo can also create a shimmering effect for the light flare and uses a glow that is by default inversely square, giving it a nice unlimited falloff.
The shimmer effect is also based on the falloff.There are a few animation settings for shimmer, as well as a timeoffset slider which will allow you to gang it to a camera or any other motion, including 3D support.
