It looks like FreeForm Pro is due for another update soon. Mettle’s 3D plugin for After Effects will add some new render options that will make it possible to transform footage into an array of primitive shapes.

There will be several new render options available in FreeFrom Pro 1.75, allowing you to create array of primitive objects. The new FreeForm offers controls for  spacing, size, rotation and density of the cubes can be controlled. This means that that you can create simple lines of shapes, or a dense array.

The new render options will let you pull apart video footage, and render it as cubes, or other shapes, right in 3D space. In fact, Mettle’s Nancy Eperjesy walks through some of the new rendering options in Freeform Pro 1.75. Here, she shows how to set up the file and transform footage into an array of icosahedron primitives.

Nancy shows the flexibility of a custom layout and using overlapping rendered 3D footage with original fire footage. She also shows us how to create 3D text that uses the fire footage as a reflection map, with ShapeShifter AE.
