IF you have ever wanted to simply your workflow between two powerhouse applications alike SideFX Houdini and Autodesk Maya, you are not alone. The SideFX Houdini Engine allows you to use Houdini Assets in other applications, but what if you wanted to send and share assets between them?

a client / server communication system which allows the user to send data between software like Houdini and Maya

Technical Director Guillaume Jobst has developed a simple client–server system that will allow you to send data between software like Houdini and Maya through a local network.

HCom will allow you stop send meshes, bitmaps and even Houdini Digital Assets (Which require the Houdini Engine of course).

HCom is based on Python 2.7 and the rpyc library, the user interface is written with PySide (which is shipped with Houdini and Maya).

By running the HCom Python server on any machine in the network, you can connect an HCom client from Maya and Houdini to the reining server. You can then send any data to any user that is connected to the HCom server.

You can download the HCom System for Houdini and Maya here.
