Generate YouTube 360 Videos From After Effects

Mettle is set to release SkyBox, an script and plugin combination for After Effects. Skybox will let you generate both 3D stills and animations consisting of environment maps for reflections, dome projections and even VR applications such as the Oculus Rift.

Available soon, Mettle SkyBox can generate youtube 360.

One interesting use is that SkyBox will allow you to generate YouTube 360 videos. IF you have flash installed, YouTube 360 vids will let you pan around the scene as it is playing out (only works on chrome and Android devices).

Mettle recently posted a sample of this from beta-tester and Munich-based vfx artist Klaus Brandenburg. Klaus created a YouTube 360 animation completely in After Effects using Element 3D and Mettle’s SkyBox to generate the compatible image format. As a proof of concept it’s pretty exciting.

SkyBox SkyBox works with most After Effects 3D plugins. These can include Trapcode plugins, Element 3D, Plexus and of course the mettle plugins of FreeForm and FreeForm Pro, and ShapeShifter AE. It also works well with standard After Effects 3D layers.

No word yet on the release or pricing for SkyBox, but you can find out more skybox information on Mettle’s site as it becomes available.
