If you have ever attempted to control the rotation speed of something in Cinema 4D with a percent driven slider, you might find that everything works fine until you slow it down gradually. Then strange things might start to happen. The rotation tends to go a bit crazy and even moves backwards at times before coming to a stop.

Have you run into an issue when you want to control the speed of something rotating with a percent slider?

Edmond Brown sought out to find a method to be able to control splining and rotation accurately on a project that required rigging of Dewalt power tools. As Edmond notes, “The weed whacker had to be shown changing speeds, but the bloody thing was going backwards and speeding up before coming to a rest.”

Finally, Edmond came up with, and is sharing his Xpresso Motor, which will allow you to accurately spin, slow down, or stop anything in your own projects, all through an easily controlled slider.

The Xpresso Motor proves to be a faster alternative to using C4D’s motor object. All you need to do is download the Xpresso Motor scene file, and parent your objects to the Null in the scene, or use its rotation in your xpresso setup. You can key the user data sliders in the HUD display or in the “Rotation Controls” inside the Controller null.

Edmond makes his Xpresso Motor a free download which you can get here: mediafire.com/?w99mmk9tnweca3c
