Watch Studio Lighting Magically Come Together for Automotive CGI

How long to you spend getting your lighting just the way that you like it? Lighting is an important element in getting perfectly realistic renders. With automotive advertising, it is difficult to know if a shot is real or if it is CG these days. That is due to artists like Maciek Ptaszynski.

Here, Maciek posts a time lapse in creating a professional studio lighting solution for an automotive CGI shot.

Maciek uses LightMap’s HDR Light Studio 5 standalone to create the lighting solution, in less than an hour, starting from the first light and creating the studio lighting for the shot one light at a time.

HDR Light Studio 5 allows you to “reverse-create” lights. You can click on the part of your model that you want the light to affect, and HDR light Studio will place a light in the scene to accommodate your click. This makes it very much as though you were painting with light, rather than placing and adjusting a lights position to hit a certain part of the 3D model.
