Ever wish that you had more control over the rounded rectangle in After Effects? How about rounding any corner that are not a rectangle primitive? Now this is completely possible with the new Vertex Tool from Tomas Sinkunas, who has brought us other great tools such as Renomi and Slice It Up.

Round mask/shape layer corners with a click

Round Any Shape

The Vertex Tool for After Effects allows you to easily apply rounding to a Shape, and take control over how it is being rounded. Sure the Rounded Rectangle in After Effects will allow you to round out the sharp corners. What about doing a chamfer, or an inset rounded corner? How about a more complex “S” type of shape for the corner? All are sadly missing from After Effects.

The Vertex Tool brings up to 12 different rounding algorithms that you can choose from. The tool is also able to animate between the rounding states with a single click.

The Vertex Tool rounding method can be applied based on either Radius or Percentage. The Radius describes the distance from the selected vertex, while the Percentage represents the distance between the selected and neighboring vertices.

Vertex Tool has a handy method for restoring your original shape, should you change your mind. The Store Shape Data option will read shape data (coordinates of vertices, in/out tangents) and sore that information in the shape’s expression field. This way you are able to restore original shape at any time.

Vertex Tool Pricing

The Vertex Tool can be found on aescripts + aeplugins for $29.99. If you would like to take it out for a spin, there is a free trial version that is limited to maximum 5 vertices per path. Check out the After Effects Vertex Tool page for more information.
