Looking for a 3D Model? Try the 3D Model Database, a Search Engine for 3D Content

3D Model Database, a Search Engine for 3D Content

If you are looking for a particular 3D model, Google does a fine job of showing you results that might interest you. Google will, however, also give you results that have nothing to do with 3D models that can be downloaded for sale or for free. Other results might show up in that list.

Its like a Google, but only for 3d models.

About a month ago, the 3D Model Database launched, to give artists a better search experience, only for 3D models. There are many sites that offer 3D content, and the 3D models Database can search all of them all at once, and return the results.

Currently the 3D Model Database indexes 734,007 3D models from around the web. The search engine currently indexes 3d export, turbo squid, 3d ocean, cg sputnik, 3ddd, the 3d studio, cg studio, virtual-lands, cg trader, flat pyramid., thingiverse.com, 3dsky.org, renderosity, ever motion, cube hero, and design connected.

The benefit to using a specific 3D model search engine might seem marginal, but the potential could be pretty great. Alex Birdman, one of the site’s developers mentioned that the 3D Model Database will included added filters and the ability to search by a photograph or picture. The site has plans to add search by topology, profile and shape as well.
