Automated Blended Normal Maps With ShaderFX in Maya

The Puppeteer Lounge’s Suchan Bajracharya shows how to set up quick normal map blending for a facial rig, using Maya’s ShaderFX.

You can use this technique to setup automation and blending of multiple normal maps.

ShaderFX was brought into Maya to be a real-time shader editor, similar to the Node editor. It allows you to create realtime viewport shaders by connecting different shading nodes together.

Here, Suchan shows how you can create a bit of an automated system that will blend between various normal maps for a facial rig in Maya.

ShaderFX is a real-time shader editor that allows you to easily create advanced viewport shaders by connecting different shading nodes.
