Rapid Rig Modular 2 Adds Soft IK, Custom Pivots and More

If you are a fan of the auto-rigging tools under the Rapid Rig brand, you have reason to rejoice. Rapid Rig Modular 2 adds a wealth of great new user-driven features both in rigging and animation.

As the name states, rapid, is the key behind the powerful and flexible rigging toolset.

If you are not familiar, Rapid Rig Modular is an auto-rigging tool for Maya, that allows you to create characters from the ground up, in a modular way. As an example, you can start with a spine, and then ad to it as many arms or legs as you need.

Rapid Rig Modular 2 adds the ability to place a custom pivot for the hands and feet. This will make it easier to have them planted firmly in place, or animated with a custom pivot point. Rapid Rig Modular 2 focuses on incorporating user requests.

An example of this would be that now, all of the joints in RRM 2 now work with mirrored behavior. You can select controls on either side of the rig and rotate them, and have them behave as expected.

Another great addition is a new soft IK behavior for the joints. This can easily eliminate troubled “popping” of knees and elbows and the like, by using a new “Dampen Softness” setting in the channel box.
