C4D’s Thin Film Shader Can Easily Create Realistic Bubbles

Have you upgraded to C4D R18 yet? There are a lot of really great new features in R18, and some nice little additions like the Thin Film Shader. If you need to render out realistic bubbles, the thin-film shader makes it super-easy.

What exactly is a Thin Film Shader? Like the name suggests, it can easily render phenomena such as oil slicks, finger prints, realistic bubbles or other oily residue, by rendering accurate incidence angles for it. If you watch Jonas Pilz’s quick tip that shows how to create soap bubbles in C4D by using the Thin Film Shader in R18, you will notice how easy it is to use.

It is a completely vertical shader, and not one that you would use in your day to day work, but it does come in handy when you need to rendering thin film effects without diving into creating complex shaders.
