Lighting an Interior Scene With Arnold

Remember the “old” days when you needed to light and render an interior scene in Maya using Mental Ray? There was always a lot of busy work that had to be done. Setting a physical sun and sky, adjusting the RGB Conversion of the sun to 0.318, replacing the tone mapping node with something more effective, portal lights… it goes on!

Those days are behind us (hopefully) now that Maya has Arnold as one of its bundled renderers. How does Arnold compare to setting up and lighting an interior scene to mental ray? It’s just a lot simpler.

Watch Yone Santana tutorial as he walks us through lighting and rendering an interior scene covering direct illumination, area light setups, the render settings needed and really great looking volumetric lighting.
