Move Weights is a Little Known and Underused Tool That Can Make Skinning Easier

The Rigging Dojo’s Brad Clark posts a look at what it calls a little known tool that should definitely be used as part of the a routine. Maya’s Move Weights Tool can make skinning easier, allowing for added control really quickly.

Living in the Paint Skin Weights Tool, the Move Weights can transpose the values of selected vertices from their current influences to a target.

“TDs can use it to speed up skinning by copying good weighting to new joints for twist, like shoulders to a few new twist joints in the upper arm for example.” Clark says. The rig used in the example is one of the many that can be found on Kiel Figgin’s site.
