An Overview of Triplanar Mapping with Octane

Silverwing’s Raphael Rau Offers a Nice Overview for Working With TriPlanar Mapping With Octane Render in Cinema 4D

There are ways to work with textures and not have to worry so much about the model’s UV’s. One method is triplanar mapping. The concept is pretty simple. Triplanar mapping is basically projecting and blending textures in the world space. This mapping technique works for many situations, but can really excel when working with terrains.

It is this subject that Silverwing’s Raphael Rau walks through working with projection mapping when working with Octane render in Cinema 4D. Rau’s tutorial gives a great explanation and overview for this texture mapping technique. “With triplanar mapping there is such an immense amount of possibilities opening up in Octane” Rau says.

A while back, Pingo Van Der Brinkloev shows a more do-it-yourself technique for making your own tri-planar mapping system within Cinema 4D. It takes time to set up, but you could save it out as a preset and refer back to it easily.
