Resolution Independent Cloth Sewing With Houdini

Stitch Together Cloth Using Group Names Instead of Points in Houdini

Houdini Artist Atom demonstrates how to set up a cloth system in Houdini, where the pieces for the clothes can be stitched together using group names. This is in contrast to the standard methods for stitching cloth which typically uses hard-coded points from the shelf tool.

Using group names will allow you to change the resolution of the after the pieces have been stitched together. “Being able to control the resolution, after-the-fact, allows for quicker sim times up front and also allows you to dial in a hi-resolution setting when exporting your final garment.” Atom says.

Also in the tutorial, Atom explores some of the characteristics and settings of the simulation showing how to resolve initial intersections that are pretty typical for these types of workflows.
