Create Pixel Portraits Using Stardust in After Effects

James Ramirez Takes a Quick Look at Using Stardust’s Feild Node to Control Particles for Pixel Portraits

Art Director James Ramirez (friedpixels) breaks down one of his Stardust experiments, creating pixel portraits using various types of particles. James walks through how he used Stardust’s Feild Node (and others) to use typography as pixels using an image or a video clip.

James uses the luminance values of a source clip to alter the size and texture of a textured particle. Stardust is a fantastic particle tool for after effects offering a nonlinear, nondestructive node based workflow for creating particle effects. The plugin also brings high-end 3D features where you can use 3D objects as particles, and render them realistically with a physically based rendering engine.
