animation mentor student showcase 2010

Check out Animation Mentor’s 2010 student showcase – really great stuff in there!

“WELCOME TO THE STUDENT SHOWCASE 2010

We’re excited to present the Student Showcase 2010! It’s inspiring to see the diversity of student work and talent from countries all over the world: Australia, France, Germany, South Africa and Italy to name a few. We received a whopping 250 entries for this year’s Student Showcase and went through the tough process of narrowing them down.

If you’ve always wanted to be an animator, we encourage you to learn more about our school. Our graduates make some of the most incredible friends for life and learn to tap into their inner geek. Our students learn the craft of animation face-to-face with their mentors, the masterminds behind the movies and games that they love! Our students get all this with support and encouragement from the entire Animation Mentor crew during their journey. We love this stuff as much as they do and we LOVE seeing our students make their dreams come true!”

deeper modes of expression part 9, wiggly world

Chris and Trish Meyer post the ninth part of a 12-part series, called “Deeper Modes of Expression”, that comes from the 180+ page bonus chapter in their book Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects, 5th Edition: Essential and Advanced TechniquesRead the last instalment, part EIGHT – Going for a Loop.

“Nothing is more boring that having to keyframe supposedly random movements. Fortunately, there’s a simple, powerful expression that can add randomization to virtually any parameter for you:wiggle. Here we’ll explain how to apply the basic wiggle expression, and then add finer degrees of control to it.”

what the heck is HIK anyway?

Autodesk’s Steven Rosell with a great post where he shows Autodesk’s Human IK and how it relates to all of Autodesk’s product… Steven actually cites that Human IK can be a bit confusing as there are four different incarnations of HIK in use. Read the post… good stuff!

Autodesk HumanIK Demo from Leonard Teo on Vimeo.

“Most of you by now have probably heard of HIK. But what is HIK exactly? Frankly, there has been quite a bit of confusion about this because there are actually a few different incarnations out there. So I figured I’d take a stab at trying to clear things up (as best as they can be cleared up anway). Ugh… do I really want to open up this can of worms? OK, what the heck :)

So, in general, when people are talking about HIK they are referrring to a character rigging and animation system. But… there are actually four implementations (or you might even say versions) of HIK out there. This can be very confusing to say the least. It all breaks down as follows…”

The Rigging Dojo has posted a recoding of the live session “Inside The Setup Machine 2 with Raf Anzovin” that they had a while back. Raf Anzovin, creator of The Setup Machine 2 for Maya, shares some of the design philosophy and rigging tricks that went into the popular auto-rigging package and some useful ways to modify it-recorded from a live webcast. I have watched this live, and really this is a must watch, Raf provides all kinds of insights in this vid.
