SOuP updates with point cloud scatter features

Peter Shipkov’s plug-in SOuP which extends the procedural capabilities of Autodesk Maya (seriously, this guy must be brilliant!) has recently updated to include new point cloud scatter features and also voronoi shatter algorithms. The premise of the plug in is a little broad for a simple explanation, perhaps it is best set with an example… If you have a sphere and you extrude 2 faces from that sphere, with soup (adding procedural abilities to this) you can go back and edit the original sphere shape node and add more resolution without effecting the extrude you have done. Alternatively, if you require to add a few more faces to that extrude, you can do so without redoing the extrusion for those faces – you can just ad the new faces to be included in the extrude group.

This becomes absolutely exciting when you are doing a shatter or a crack! Imagine building a shatter with dynamics, and then changing the underlying shape object underneath without destroying anything yu have previously created… or editing the shatter procedurally the same way – So cool.

Anyway, check it out already.

Accompanying the download are sample scenes again, and if you haven’t checked out the page for SOuP, Peter provides some demos and descriptions that are not to b missed.

auto create textured eyes in maya

Leo Moon with this first public release of lmEyeMaker script that will make a complete textured eye…Why? Because he got tired of making the same thing over and over again or spending a long time finding an eye inside an old project to bring it into the new one! No one has to do that again! – good thinking Leo…Good thinking.

Just copy the lmEyeMaker.mel to your scripts folder.Run Maya and type “lmEyeMaker” to make one eye. If you run it again to generate another eye, the textures won’t be duplicated. The script will check for the shaders. If they exist, it won’t make it again.

after effects rendering tips

Felt Tips with some rendering tips in after effects… There are actually some good points throughout, so even if you feel confident about doing your own rendering thing in after effects, it is still worth the watch!

Felt Tips – After Effects Render Tips from Felt Tips on Vimeo.

This Video is in response to the many questions asked on Videohive about how to render from After Effects.
There are no hard and fast rules, so this is a collection of some of my techniques that I’ve been using for the last 15 years or so using After Effects.
It centres around setting up a render process early in a project, using image sequences until the very final stage. This has some surprising advantages.
I also cover the use of background renderer, creation of output modules and render settings templates, memory, multi-processing and disk-cache preferences, as well as showing a basic preset for rendering FLVs and Quicktime H.264 out of After Effects.
The tutorial is aimed at users at a basic to intermediate level.

new layout tools 2011 for maya 2011

Steven Roselle has finished Layout Tools 2011, for Maya 2011! Well, finished in terms of it being Beta3 still – but it is very sweet! You can check out the features for Layout Tools for Maya 2011 here, and you can also download Layout Tools here.

“At long last I have finally finished LayoutTools2011. Phew. It took me longer than I expected, so for those of you that have been waiting for it, thank you for your patience. Most of the updates are related to the UI this time around.  The first movie covers these changes…I also added a couple of extra handy tools like the “Spin Tool” for rotating selections of objects in unison.”
