Also dealing with Retopoloy in Maya, Leonardo Covarrubias has created a tool for such a task; Inspired from seeing the RetopoG set out to create his own Basic Retopology Tool for Maya, and this was the birth of lcRetopoBasic for Maya. lcRetopoBasic for Maya makes use of Maya Live Surface features to draw new topology on a model and is written in PyMel. Mudbox to Maya Displacement & Normal Mapping

Jason Gorman with a demonstration of how to use Autodesk Mudbox for sculpting a low resolution model from Autodesk Maya, and saving the result as a displacement map for use in Maya.

Jason Gorman writes: This is a demonstration on how to use Autodesk Mudbox to sculpt a low resolution model from Maya (1 polygon) and save the resulting sculpture as a displacement map (at 4 subdivisions) and normal map (at 7 subdivisions) to use in Autodesk Maya. The displacement map is used to bring the single polygon to look like 256 polys and the normal map is used to bring it to the look of 16k polys.
