Daniel Brodesky takes a look at creating stacked animated waves in After Effects that will form something in the end, in this case, a logo. This is quite a popular technique using Cinema 4D where the object will form layer by layer to form an object or type.

In this tutorial we will create a 3D logo sitting on top of a floor, casting nice soft shadows. The logo will come into the scene in an original and attractive way

Here, Daniel shows how to create layered waves that will build the object up in After Effects, building the file in such a way that it is completely flexible and editable, making it easy to modify the end result.

The premise is actually fairly simple, using 3D layers and animated masks to create the building up effect, centering the key look of the project around making the layers actually look 3d. Check out the tutorial for Revealing an Object in After Effects using Layered Animated Waves here.
