Hard Surface Artist Dylan Mellott posts a crash course on getting started using Substance Painter. If you are unfamiliar, Allegorithmic’s Substance Painter was built to be the next generation texture painting tool for artists.

Painter allows you to paint full-on materials in real time, and offers a Physically based (PBR) viewport for really accurate material feedback. Not only does Substance Painter use Allegorithmic’s Substance Materials, but you can also import your own custom shaders and create your own channels to paint on.

Substance Painter will also amazingly let you paint with particles. This will allow you to create more realistic weathering effects easily. The particle engine lets you throw dirt, fire, or rain on your objects, and creates the weathering effects in real time.

Adobe Substance Painter is available in Indie or Pro license: both license are full featured, the only difference comes from a revenue limit. There is a trial version of Substance Painter available that is full featured application that will work during 30 days.
