An Easier & Cleaner Method for Long Shadows in Ae

One of the founders of Motion Array, Tyler Williams, shows off his method for creating the long shadows style in After Effects.

There are other ways to do this, but many of them are very complicated and require multiple layers and compositions.

The tutorial walks through creating the long shadow effects, with a system that is much cleaner than some setups that you might have seen before.

Tyler’s method relies on a couple of transform effects, a fill effects and the minimax effect. Well, of course we are talking about After Effects here, so that’s not all. There is a few lines of expressions that need to be used to link a couple of things together. Adding a venetian blinds effect will get you a hashed look to the long shadow.

In the end however, you will have a long shadow effect, that works quite well, and only uses a single layer in your After Effects composition.
