The Torque 3D game engine was once a pretty popular engine for a lot of years and with good reason, Torque was a full featured game engine for a really small price. Unfortunately, that was not enough to save Torque from the likes of Unity 3D, which, say what you will, I believe to be the final nail in the Torque Engine coffin.

The big news coming out of GarageGames is that Torque 3D will be going open source under the MIT license. This is huge, and something that we’ve discussed internally for a while

Recently it was announced that the GarageGames Torque Engine will see a new life as an Open Source Release under the the MIT License. Dave Wyand, senior developer for GarageGames is spearheading the T3D Open Source effort and he has a blog post which describes the details around the development process.

GarageGames is using GitHub to host the Torque 3D repositories, which allows for forking code bases and easy merging of changes. Anyone can have read access tot he public Torque 3D repositories, and you can create your own fork and do whatever development you wish there, and you can also share with the community to be integrated back into the Master Version.
