Ramiro A. Fernandez takes a look at taking parts of a clip in After Effects and creating depth from it. Instead of taking a still image and creating 3D depth from it, Ramiro uses the element of time as well to create interesting sculpture forms in Ae.

This is one of few tutorials that I want to upload of some techniques. I want to show you my way of thinking creating some interesting effectsRamiro A. Fernandez

By freezing the clip at certain times, you are essentially creating a still from it that you can use in 3D space in After Effects. Adding more than one 3D layer, you can capture the movement and intent of the clip.

Stacking many layers together will create an interesting 3D effect in the After Effects viewport. Although I can’t think of a practical example for this, it is a pretty cool way to experiment with moving images and form, the 3D layer staking effect offers an almost ghost-like 3D shape.

Couldn’t see a link for the tutorial here so I checked google and saw one. Unfortunately it looks like it may have been pulled off of vimeo though because the page cannot be found.
