Substance Painter Adds Texture Export to Photoshop

Allegorithmic’s update to Substance Painter adds the texture export, letting users pass along an entire layer stack into Photoshop. The export routine keeps Painter’s layers, masks, folders and even the blending modes in tact.

a look at how to export a Substance Painter project to a Photoshop PSD file using the new PSD Export plugin that ships with 2.3

The new texture export routine is handled through a new plugin. Clicking the Photoshop export, gives you a panel where you can alter and change the settings for the export. The plugin will then launch photoshop and recreate everything it needs from the Painter document, giving you a PSD file for each channel that you had in Substance Painter.

There will be some discrepancies though. Photoshop doesn’t support some of the more advanced blending modes that are available in Substance Painter. Still, if you like to use Photoshop to clean up or add details to your textures, this can be a good workflow for you.
