Ezequiel Grand Shows How He Put Together Visually Striking Volume Abstracts in Side FX Houdini

The look is very distinct. You may have seen it around quite a bit lately, largely due to a new Arnold 5 feature that lets you use geometry as a container for volume effects. Using Arnold will give you some nice images at render time, but what about creating a similar effect in the viewport?

Ezequiel Grand (known as Caskal) walks through his last research project, that involved creating volume abstracts with Side FX Houdini, not at render time, but in view. The technique offers a really interesting look and can be used on a wide variety of things. Follow along with Grand, and download the Houdini project file to pick apart the network that was used to create the final result. Great stuff!
