The promise of innovation always sparks interest in our industry. Even though applications like Softimage and Maya are more than capable at rigging and animation, the moment there is any word of a new novel approach, I think people’s interests are piqued.

We will give power back to artists with software fitting to them

French company, Nukeygara has gained the interest with a few advanced snippets of what will be a new approach to animation and rigging with a product they call akeytsu, which takes aim at having a more artistic approach to animation and rigging.

akeytsu Offers Some New Concepts in Rigging and Animation

Over the lsat little while Nukeygara has been dropping hints that rigging in akeytsu will be much different than in what is now traditional 3D applications. A new approach to rigging without the need for curve controllers or duplicate skeletons to handle IK and FK.

akeytsu requires only one skeleton, one skinning, and a few advanced solvers to animate a character – they call this the Free Rig Process. This is largely due to akeytsu’s IK solver which can handle IK and FK workflows, and has advanced options such as stretching and reverse foot lock built right into the IK Solver.

In terms of animation, akeytsu draws heavily on traditional 2D animation themes with an adapted X-sheet that offers a slim and simple keyframe editor for 3D animation workflows. A spinner replaces the need to traditional controls on a character. This allows for some pretty quick interactions with the character in the 3D viewport.

akeytsu will be unveiled at the 2014 Siggraph Show – sounds exciting and not to be missed!

This already exists. They are just copying and trying to sell it.
