Latham Arnott shows how he created his “hipster cyclist” animation in After Effects, showing how he used Duik Tools to set up and animate the character. The character was created by illustrator Kirk Wallace.

Duik tools in Ae allows you to do some pretty complex things easily – Not only for rigging of characters and involved systems, bur also some great animation tools as well. Duik has a really robust system for character set up which includes an auto rigger. If your elements are named and have the correct pivots set, setting up a character can be a 1 click process.

Duik tools offers inverse kinematics for animation as well as forward kinematics, bones, morphing tools, and even simple dynamics. Astoundingly, Duik is a free download, but really you should donate something, as it is too great a tool to not continue development on. Check out Duik tools for After Effects here.

Fun tutorial. Is it possible to get the illustrator file of the cyclist to try out in the tutorial?
