Mt. Mograph’s Matt Jylkka shows us how to get a fast cloudscape render in Cinema 4D.

Using a Cloud PNG, or any PNG object, we’ll cut down render time

There are many ways to create clouds in 3D for a cloudscape. This can range from particles to fluids, to volumetric rendering effects.

Usually, any type of particle, voxel or volume render will be a long render time. Add semi-opaque materials, and you might be in for even longer render times.

Matt shows how you can take a simple image with a transparency or alpha channel, and create from it an entire cloudscape. Once you understand the technique, you can create entire cloudscape scenes to fly through while keeping your render times manageable.

Matt describes how to use the Mograph cloner to distribute the cloud planes/images, and offers some tips for using the compositing tag to fix some rendering issue that may occur when rendering an image based cloudscape.
