Using Maya’s Closest Point Node for Animation Controls

SoukiZERO is a Character TD supervisor at Motion Magic has been posting some great insights into unique rigging setups in Maya lately. Recently, a new post shows some ways to create animation controls using the Closest Point Node in Maya.

SoukiZERO recreates a setup where locators can control the positions of joints in an animation rig.

Souki’s last couple of tutorials showed how you can create the “interactive” style controllers for a character rig, where you touch the surface of the character rather than an intrusive curve.

If you want to see the system in use, you can check out his tutorial for creating interactive controllers, which is based on FAKS, (Facial Action Coding System).
