ft-ssibl pixel bender shader for after effects

By June 3, 2010One Comment

François Tarlier seems to be writing a pixel bender shader a day these days – dood doesn’t sleep maybe. Recently he has built a ft-SSIBL (screen space image based lighting) which is a screen space shader for After Effects which allows you to relight in 2.5D. Pretty sweet! For more information & download it checkout francois-tarlier.com.

“ft-SSIBL for “Screen Space Image Base Lighting” is based on a topic I covered in a previous post aboutRoy Stelzer’s “2.5D Relighting inside of Nuke”.  In this shader I tried to reproduced a few approach found in his Nuke script. So with a Normal pass (object or world), you will be able to do some relighting with a HDR map. The shader won’t compute the 9 coefficients (spherical harmonics) needed for you as describe in this paper : http://graphics.stanford.edu/papers/envmap. But don’t worry I’ll do a quick tutorial soon on how to find those coefficients with your own lightprobe (aka angular map).

The default value are from the Grace Cathedral, San Francisco Lightprobehttp://www.debevec.org/Probes/

lol, yeah I’m sleeping a bit! I have been writting them for a few weeks now, and I’m just releasing it now.
I do have a few more in mind, but there are not quite ready to be release, so I guess I’m going to slow down a lot for the next few weeks on the release part 🙂
Thanks for the post though !!!
