Anthony Aslangul shares his Forester script for Maya which allows you to generate a large amount of objects across a surface. Useful for creating forest scenes, rocks or debris or tiny mechanical details on a hard-surface model. Check out Forester for Maya, duplicating objects on a surface here.

Anthony Aslangul writes: Forester is Maya MEL Script i made that will give you the possibility to generate a large amount of objects on a surface. It can be useful to make forests, rocks, garbage stuff and other things like that. I don’t know if you ever tried to place each tree of a wood manually but i assure you, it can take a veryyyyy long time! I hope this script will help you. It also has a feature to orient the objects by using the vertex normal direction that allow you to make special objects (like spikes on a ball or if you want to detail a spaceship hull…).
