The CandyFloss Kid takes a look at the usefulness of the Smudge Tool & Move Tool in 3D-Coat for sculpting, using them for blocking out forms for later details.

The CandyFloss Kid writes: The useful nature of the Smudge Tool as a creative alternative to the Move Tool when first new to 3DCoat may not be initially apparent – particularly when testing it on a basic voxel primitive shape. The reason for this is that the Smudge Tool excels at moving existing detail and thus when first experimenting on an undetailed voxel primitive this observation may pass the new user by – it certainly did me.
As the name suggests the smudge tool may also soften detail to a degree when moving and to this end it is often best applied when building forms and before hard detailing occurs. Of course you can use this softening nature to your advantage on detail should you require.
