Louder Than Eleven’s Jordan Shipman shows how you are able to use Digital Elevation Data (DEM) topographic data to create 3D terrains in Cinema 4D, providing some useful tips and resources for finding, using and rendering DEM files in Cinema to create some great 3D terrains and maps.

I figured out how to use topographic DEM data to create physically accurate 3D maps of terrain inside Cinema 4D. I show you where and how to get that data and a couple of ways (one free 3rd party program) to get that data inside C4D and work with it

Jordan shows a few places where you are able to grab some Digital Elevation Data topology files for yourself, and also shows some helpful tools for viewing DEM’s and demonstrates how to stitch the GeoTiff files together. Jordan also shows a technique for creating multiple renders in Cinema 4D and z-depth compositing to create a believable landscape map.

Check out post for Using Elevation Data to Create 3D Maps in Cinema 4D here for a list of resources and tools.
