Wes McDermott shares some tricks for aligning objects in Maya unconventionally using the Channel Box. Wes shows how you are able to use the Channel Box in Maya to align and match objects to another, and also shows a couple of uses for the tip.

This video shows a technique for using the Channel Box in Maya to match and align items

By selecting the object that you want to align to last, and hitting the tab key to switch from one active numeric field in the Channel Box, Maya will dump the object’s values into the first objects attributes, which is an amazing little tip. Since this technique works with the values, you do need to have a transform node that does have values in it, so a frozen object will not work in this case. Wes shows this with simple objects, and then another example where he is editing joints on a rig. Check out the post for Aligning Objects in Maya Using The Channel Box here.
