After Effects user Cornelius Brackett demonstrates how to make an camera iris opening animation in After Effects procedurally using expressions and controllers to control the blades of the iris easily.

wanted to think of a way to do it procedurally so changes in animation, components, and other aspects weren’t a nightmare

Cornelius creates an Iris system that is driven by 5 control sliders in After Effects, that will work for any number of Iris Blades needed in the animation. Creating the Iris procedurally offers the opertunity to edit the iris’ components and animation easily.
