Frustrated with Adobe and the cloud vision that has recently been announced or (depending on what side of the fence you are sitting on) “imposed”?

There may be an alternative for you if you are using After Effects CSx and a mac to make your living. FXHome, creators of the inexpensive, yet surprisingly robust HitFilm 2, have recently launched a KickStarter campaign to bring HitFilm 2 to the mac under OSX.

Unique 3D compositing, visual effects and video editing software for creative filmmakers – time to bring it to Mac!

HitFilm 2 is kind of like After Effects, in that you are able to create your VFX work, whatever that may be, including roto, point tracking, planar tracking, color keying, effects and such only from a smaller developer. What you are getting for the price point of hitfilm, is a little astounding with HitFilm 2 Ultimate at $399 and HitFilm 2 Express at $149.

What is unconventional (at this point), is that HitFilm does not have a 3rd party plugin ecosystem.

I suspect because it simply doesn’t need one, demonstrating that HitFilm has a truly integrated 3D environment, being able to import, use and render 3D models in a true 3D space.

HitFilm also has an integrated 3D particle system, with physical simulations and HitFilm also runs on the GPU. I realize that at times, 3rd party developers could create better tools, however purchasing a fairly complete package to begin with has a value associated to it.

One of the most interesting aspects of HitFilm 2 is that there is an integrated editing environment, with standard NLE tools such as ripple, roll, slip and slice, and you are able to jump between the layer based compositing environment to the NLE environment with a single click.

Check out and support the KickStarter Campaign to make HitFilm 2 for Mac a reality… whynot? Even if you are an die-hard After Effects user, a little competition and alternatives may be a good thing.
