Tech Tips for Animators posts a look at using the hotkey of Alt+ left, Right, Up or Down Arrow which is a Camera Space Nudge in Maya, for tweaking an object’s position while animating in Maya.

Although this is a quick hotkey tip, it actually has been one of our most loved tips

The nudge can actually be used in any situation, object or even components in Maya, making it a great technique for positioning components when modeling as well. The nudge is actually based on camera-space, meaning the arrow keys behave relative to the view rather than world or object space.

Demonstrating two great situations for using the Camera Space Nudge in Maya when animating, with a look at dealing with IK pops with a leg extension in a walk cycle, and the other showing how you can tweak poses of a character in animation, when none of the controller axes are aligned.
