One of the founders of Motion Array, Tyler Williams, shows off his method for creating the long shadows style in After Effects.
[pullquote]There are other ways to do this, but many of them are very complicated and require multiple layers and compositions.[/pullquote]The tutorial walks through creating the long shadow effects, with a system that is much cleaner than some setups that you might have seen before.
Tyler’s method relies on a couple of transform effects, a fill effects and the minimax effect. Well, of course we are talking about After Effects here, so that’s not all. There is a few lines of expressions that need to be used to link a couple of things together. Adding a venetian blinds effect will get you a hashed look to the long shadow.
In the end however, you will have a long shadow effect, that works quite well, and only uses a single layer in your After Effects composition.
