A Twist on the Tiny Planet Effect in After Effects

By November 7, 2016No Comments

WorkBench.tv’s Joe Clay was reminded of a technique he used a while ago, by noticing the new Photoshop Splash Screen. Joe shows how you can create and animate something similar to the tiny planet effect. This however, is more of a tunnel world effect in After Effects. The PS splash screen is by Amr Elshamy, who created a series called “round things”. If you have ever seen the tiny planet look, this would be akin to that, only based in negative space.

The tutorial covers creating the base artwork created to a specific size. That portion uses a little bit of math to determine the hypotenuse based on the composition size. not to worry though, that was explained in a previous tutorial called Radial Delay. Form there it is a matter of animating the horizontal position of the scenery. This is easily done using the After Effects MotionTile effect, which will keep the sides of the comp in tact, so they always match up.
